Celebrating Earth Week at RiverWoods Manchester: A Greener Tomorrow Starts Today
At RiverWoods Manchester, sustainability isn’t just a concept—it’s a commitment embraced by our vibrant community. This Earth Week, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on the inspiring efforts of our newly formed Environmental Sustainability Committee, a passionate group of residents leading the charge toward a more environmentally conscious future.
From the moment they came together, this resident-led committee has demonstrated a remarkable dedication to learning, sharing, and taking action. Their early efforts included meaningful collaboration with local organizations such as Waste Management to better understand local trash and recycling protocols, and the Auburn-Candia Lions Club, whose innovative programs promote eyeglass recycling and the NexTrex initiative, which transforms soft plastics, like shopping bags and certain wrappers, into Trex decking and outdoor furniture.
But their impact doesn’t stop there.
To empower the entire community, the committee began offering weekly recycling tips and is currently organizing a network of Recycling Team Advisors—resident volunteers who serve as go-to resources on each floor and wing. These advisors help neighbors navigate the sometimes-confusing world of what can and can’t be recycled, making sustainable choices easier for everyone.
Earth Week at RiverWoods Manchester was a perfect showcase of this community spirit in action. Residents enjoyed:
- Educational displays in The Nook feature sustainability-themed books, original artwork, and free seed packets for residents to plant and enjoy.
- A guided bird and tree walk, encouraging appreciation for local wildlife and natural beauty.
- A community trash clean-up, underscoring the power of collective action.
- A series of thought-provoking environmental films to inspire and inform.
Looking to the future, the committee is already planning its next steps. They aim to finalize a RiverWoods Manchester Recycling Handbook, partner with a composting service to complement our new World Centric compostable dining materials, and expand community education around reducing single-use plastics.
At RiverWoods Manchester, our commitment to sustainability is yet another example of how we support purposeful, engaged living. Whether it’s protecting the planet or building connections with neighbors, life here is about making a difference together.
