Humans of RiverWoods: Callie Sar

Community Life Director of the Ridge campus, Callie Sar

This Humans of RiverWoods highlights Callie Sar, Community Life Director at The Ridge. Known for her infectious positivity and deep love for helping others, Callie brings energy, joy, and a true sense of community to the Ridge campus!

When asked about her journey with RiverWoods, Callie shared that from 2014 to 2016, she worked at RiverWoods Exeter while pursuing her master’s degree in public health. “I wanted a job that was fulfilling and fun.” During that time, she worked in Suncook Lodge as a Health Care Receptionist before transitioning to an Activities Coordinator role.

Her path then led her to Lima, Peru, where she volunteered at a senior community center as a Global Health Volunteer. After gaining a variety of professional experiences and completing internships, Callie found herself drawn back to RiverWoods. “8 years went by and I saw a job posting for this job and so I applied for it and here I am!”

Callie’s passion for service extends beyond her work at RiverWoods. She has volunteered around the globe, including time in Port Douglas, Australia, where she contributed to the Wildlife Habitat. She also traveled to the mountains of Northern Thailand, where she lived in a hut, slept on a yoga mat under a mosquito net, and bathed using a bucket of cold water. She hand-mixed cement, repaired floors, created fire lines, and taught English to children. Despite the tough conditions, this experience left a lasting impression. “Traveling has made me the person I am. Figuring out solutions to unique situations was a challenge I enjoyed.”

Her love of travel helps her connect with residents on a deeper level, often swapping stories of global adventures and gaining inspiration for her next trip. “The residents here are absolutely amazing, their accomplishments, all of the places they’ve travelled…”

We’re incredibly fortunate to have Callie as part of the RiverWoods community, and it’s clear that the residents feel the same way.
