Our Founders, Story, & Philosophy at Riverwoods Retirement Communities in NH
We change lives for the better.

Our Founders
In 2012, in anticipation of serving more seniors, we created the RiverWoods Group to oversee and offer protection to the individual communities. Now a robust family of charitable not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), RiverWoods is at the forefront of reimagining active adulthood, and has attracted staff who are leading the way with innovation.
Today, our three Life Plan Communities, RiverWoods Exeter, RiverWoods Manchester, and RiverWoods Durham make up the RiverWoods Group system and provide community, purpose, and peace of mind to a growing number of adults.
The RiverWoods Group’s purpose is twofold: to help our existing communities thrive and to find new opportunities for growth in the future, whether it is building traditional communities, or serving in a new way.
We live our founders’ mission every day, and appreciate the opportunity for this purposeful work.

Our Inclusivity Philosophy
Inclusivity means creating a space where the unique voices and perspectives of all individuals are not only heard but are integral to the richness and depth of the tapestry we weave together. It’s about recognizing and valuing the diverse experiences, backgrounds, and viewpoints that each person brings, understanding that every thread contributes to the strength and beauty of the whole.
We believe that every employee, resident, trustee, and member of our community adds a unique thread to the rich tapestry of our RiverWoods family.
Today’s globalized world is a diverse community, and we are committed to finding ways of more fully mirroring that diversity within all our stakeholder groups—Residents, Staff, and Trustees. Fulfilling our commitment to Inclusivity means meeting both legal requirements and the moral obligations that are rooted in our founding. Our Legal Requirements RiverWoods maintains a non-discriminatory policy consistent with state and federal laws that prohibit discrimination because of a person’s race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), national origin, age, disability or genetic information. Our Moral Obligation We define inclusivity as welcoming people of all faiths, races, sex, and cultures.
“Diversity is being invited to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance.” (Vernā Myers) We are thoughtful and intentional in developing our community to welcome the broadest spectrum of people. We mindfully and consistently cast the widest possible net to expand the pool of potential residents, employees and trustees. We accept and expect this journey to be challenging and enriching
