Recognizing Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month this June
June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month and the perfect time to shine a light on the impact of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Together we can highlight the importance of early detection, caregiver support, and compassionate care.
At RiverWoods our communities are built on compassion, connection, and the shared belief that we are stronger together. Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month is a lead up to the Seacoast Walk to End Alzheimer’s this fall. We support this event annually, walking to honor those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, and to support research and care for a future without this disease.
This cause is deeply personal to many of us. For residents and families in our memory support neighborhoods, Alzheimer’s is more than a diagnosis, it’s a daily journey. That’s why RiverWoods Durham offers a uniquely supportive environment, blending person-centered care with an innovative small household model. In each home-like setting, residents enjoy a private residence shared living and dining spaces, and the freedom to live each day with dignity, freedom, and care.
Jennifer Whitlock, whose mother lived in the memory support neighborhood at RiverWoods Durham, shared:
“My mom was in the memory care neighborhood at RiverWoods Durham. It was the best decision we ever made! The staff is wonderful, caring, fun, and knows family members when we visit. Mom loved being asked to go to the events (concerts, and activities) and isn’t pressured if she says, ‘no thanks.’ The staff got to know her and provided care based on what she likes and her needs are.”
RiverWoods Durham currently has limited openings in memory support. If your family is beginning the search for a supportive, safe, and engaging community for a loved one living with memory loss, we invite you to learn more about what makes Newfound Lodge at RiverWoods Durham a trusted choice for families throughout the Seacoast and beyond.
Together, we walk — and we care.
